BRUNO THE BEAR

A Monument to German Morals

Once more, people have shown that they are not capable of solving their problems in a peaceful manner, and that everything that stands in their way, perhaps even as something unusual or obstructive, has to promptly be killed.

Animals are desired and tolerated as long as they bring joy to people and patiently let themselves be petted. When an animal takes something from nature without people’s permission, then it is: “Fox, you stole the goose, give it back – or else a hunter will shoot you down.” (Children’s song). When an animal’s master or mistress go on vacation, this is often the end of the animal-loving idyll and quite a few animals land in a trash container or are simply dropped off on the highway – of course, so that no one sees it.

With brown bear Bruno – a young, two-year old animal, actually still a baby – all secrecy was put aside because it now became a high priority matter of the state. The telephone lines between Austria and Germany were going hot; experts from the far north were called in and other measures were taken until, in the end, the danger was allegedly so great, that Bruno, the bear. Had to be liquidated. Politicians of all colors, above all and characteristically, again those with the big “C” (for Christian) in their party names, endorsed the radical solution of the problem by demanding that “Bruno” be shot.

In short: The death penalty – with no hope for a pardon. Tried on suspicion without due process and indicted, because of an undesirable trustfulness and a potentially dangerous encroachment on human settlements, as well as the fact that a few sheep had been torn open. “Bruno’s” defense would have had to bring out the fact that when “Bruno” encountered human beings he had always distanced himself from them and that the number of sheep torn open by Bruno is in no proportion to the number of sheep slaughtered by people for the pure pleasure of their palates.

From experience in American national parks, it has been known for decades that brown bears, like most wild animals, avoid people and only investigate rubbish that has an intense odor. Park rangers in American national parks always point out that there is no direct danger from bears living in the wild, unless they are abruptly approached to feed them by hand or to play with these frolicsome shaggy creatures, which supposedly actually happens from time to time. This is why people in these parks are told to stay away from the bears and to not leave their cars. But as a rule, bears living in the wild flee from people. So, why all this scare-mongering over Bruno, the bear?

In the meantime, some vacationers became outraged by the senseless and brutal actions of the bear hunters and cancelled their vacation plans near Lake Schlier where Bruno was killed. This number meanwhile has grown to more than 30 people! (As of July 7, 2006). The Italian Minister of Environment, Tecorario Scanio, filed a formal complaint in Brussels, because – as it turns out – Bruno was part of a project financed by the European Union – a project named “Life Ursus,” whose aim is to resettle bears in their natural habitat.

But what happened to Bruno before the public eye is unfortunately not an individual case. Millions of wild animals are killed annually in woods and fields in this brutal manner and with no respect for life. And no one cancels his vacation plans. No one calls Brussels and no one demands, like Minister Scanio, the immediate delivery of carcass.

Jesus of Nazareth spoke unmistakably and His teaching goes far beyond the do-not-kill, namely, to the great-encompassing love for people, nature and animals, which He wanted to teach His apostles and all people. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, … for what you do to the least of my brethren you have done to me.”

So how can a politician with the “C” in his party name have such a radical and brutal attitude, when he must know that with this, he influences people and the final outcome of a situation? It is the deliberate disdain of the great Spirit of love and unity, who taught us justice toward all life.

And the alleged representatives of this great Spirit of high ethics and morals, the Catholic and Lutheran Protestant churches, don’t even lift a finger, nor do they call for a peaceful solution in view of the daily massacre of animals that takes place in woods and fields. Instead, they bless the carcasses of the animals killed by the hunters and celebrate with them the successful hunt in Hubertus masses.

But isn’t it our silent approval of the bloodthirsty behavior of the hunters in woods and fields and our cowering before power-hungry politicians that has led to the fact that we have gotten used to these excessive crimes against nature, perhaps even to the point of believing it is necessary.

Seen in the light of day, this is already the next step toward ruin, for as Leo Tolstoy said: “It is only one step from the murder of animals to the murder of people – and as long as there are slaughterhouses there will be battlefields.” For those who try to make us believe that the bear had to be killed (formal permission was given to shoot Bruno), will also explain to us why we must go to war and why we must kill our brothers.

All this is in crass opposition to the ethics and morals of Jesus of Nazareth. At no time and in any way did Jesus indicate that He wanted to become the founder of a new religion. He was a Jew among Jews and He called on the people to finally – namely 1250 years after Moses –live the words given by God to the prophets in a simple and modest way. This is why He interpreted the Jewish scriptures in ever more detailed explanations. It was a high ethics and morals for daily personal use, not for rituals or celebrated masses, for “reverends” or “holy” men and women. He spoke to the simple people in stories and parables, so that everyone could understand.

Today we know from many divine revelations and, in a detailed way, from the great work of revelation “This Is My Word – Alpha and Omega” (www.universal-spirit.cc), and from the schoolings of divine wisdom on “Inner Path,” what the appearance of Jesus of Nazareth on this earth signified. But with this alone, no animal is helped and the suffering of Mother Earth is far from over.

If we people don’t finally begin to unconditionally put into practice this teaching of the high ethics and morals of Jesus of Nazareth and to publicly denounce the offences, then everything will continue as before, and the path into the destruction of nature, into the brutalization of mankind – the path into ruin – will continue on its course. The animals and nature need our voices and we, every one of us, need the courage to finally be consistent – at first, with ourselves.

Mother Earth lies in her death-throes and the clock will soon run out. So what are we waiting for?

But let us not see the responsibility for this only in the hands of others. Only those who question themselves in their daily life, who overcome their own egocentricity and lack of love for the good of their neighbor and second neighbor, the animals, will be able to contribute in the end to a better world in the spirit of the high ethics and morals of Jesus, the Christ.

If we can manage to gain credibility through our personal ethical-moral behavior, because we are good examples in difficult situations, then our voice for the animals and nature will be heard, first in smaller and then in larger circles, and then “Bruno’s” death will not be forgotten as one occurrence among many. Let’s set the example!

And if we take to the streets with banners, for example, because 45 billion animals are brutally murdered worldwide every year for the sake of human consumption, then the government will in the end have to decide to stop this sacrilege.

Brown bear “Bruno” and all his fellow suffering animals should not ever be forgotten in our hearts. We all bear responsibility to see that this cannot happen in this era of diversionary tactics that are worth billions and of events entitled “Bread and Games.”

Let us not forget the fact that Jesus of Nazareth did not found a religion. With the simplest teachings, He brought the highest ethics and morals of the great Spirit to the people, a teaching that is available to everyone who affirms it in his heart and who is capable of believing in a better world.
